The Australian Jewish Democratic Society (AJDS) and the Australia Palestine Advocacy Network (APAN) invite you to the online launch of our Joint Statement on Antisemitism.
The launch will be at 7pm (AEST) on Monday 22 June.
Speakers will include:
- Dr Jordy Silverstein, Committee member of the Australian Jewish Democratic Society
- Mr Nasser Mashni, Vice President of the Australia Palestine Advocacy Network
- Ms Vivienne Porzsolt, founder of Jews against the Occupation
- Mr Maher Mughrabi, Palestinian journalist and commentator
Those who are critical of Israeli government policies and actions towards the Palestinians are increasingly accused of being antisemitic – a powerful allegation that oftentimes is used in an attempt to shut down legitimate political discourse. There is currently pressure for groups and governments to adopt the IHRA definition of antisemitism, a definition that conflates criticism of the State of Israel and antisemitism. Calls to end the oppression, occupation, violence and discriminatory policies and actions of the Israeli Government are not inherently antisemitic. We condemn antisemitism alongside all other forms of discrimination – noting that racism and discrimination can often be invisible to those from outside that group, so we must make an effort to see and actively challenge it.
The launch will hear from each of the speakers about how we can engage with the issue of antisemitism in our movement for justice for Palestinians.
We hope that you’ll join us to discuss this important issue
